Hi, On this page I'm gonna share things about musicals and music with ya!
let's start with rating musicals! (no spoilers)
Comming: Floyd Collins, Hairspray AND a NEWSIES review WITH spoilers :)
NEWSIES β β β β β
This is Absolutly a five star musical for me. I have watched the 2017 film version, a 2012 version and the 1992 version. I have to watch the UK version later... but we are gonna jap about the BROADWAY version :) I really loved the whole musical, from begin to end. I actually first watched a version of a random American Highschool. (I just thought it was the real version) But this Highschool version, have made me love NEWSIES. I really enjoined the dancing, what I think is different then most musicals. they won a Tony for Best Choreography. I loved the tricks at the dance parts. The songs are also AMAZING. I think the songs of NEWSIES are at singing level very good. but also in lyric level. I love the lyrics of the songs. My favourite song? Santa Fe, The emotions in this songs are amazing and I think everyone can find him/her/theyself in it. The feeling of just wanting to let everything fall and going. To Santa Fe or some other place. And my favourite group number? Once and for all. This songs is so good. I love the lyric 'They think they're on in this town, but this town would shut down without us' because I think and know that it is true. Not only the rich are leading this world. WE NEED EVERYONE. The actingwork, I think the acting work in this musical is very good. Like I said before: The emotion in Santa Fe is so well played, I feel directly all the emotion to be honest. But also in Santa Fe-the reprise is it amazing. I want to say more about this, but I said NO SPOILERS. so I'm sorry :)
I only want to share some of my favourite charaters + actors with you:
Jack Kelly (Jeremy Jordan) This is the maincharacter, and I think Jeremy Jordan played this roll so good. I love about the character that he IS a leader, but also really emotional and a dreamer.
David Jacobs (Ben Fankhauser) I love this character, because he really changes during the story: He starts as a really, like, brave boy, who really wants to follow the rules, and he ends as someone who cares less about what others think about him (this is my opinion, sorry if it isn't what you are thinking :)) And Ben did this role sooooo good. GO AND LOOK IT UP THE POOR GUYS HEAD IS SPINNING (IYKYK)
Crutchie (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) I love Crutchie, how he is always postive even tho only one leg is doing it good. I Love Andrews voice-sound. and I think Crutchie and Jack are really like brothers, they sing it in Santa Fe Reprise. but I think they don't know how much they need each other :) (AGAIN I said NO spoilers.)
Race (Ben Cook) I LOVE RACE. He is an amazing character I think, but I would've liked to learn a bit more about him during the musical. Ben Cook did this role sooo good. I love his dancing and how he danced with a sigar in his mouth!
Katherine Plumer (Kara Lindsay) I have a bit dubble feelings about Katherine. I think she is a beautiful character (Sh!t, how am I gonna write about her without spoilers...) Okay I loved the character in the way that she opens herself to write about -and with- the NEWSIES. And I love that they made a female character as a reporter. because that time it started slowly to change about female rights. I actually first didn't like Katherine, mostly about some chooses she made. (if you watched NEWSIES, you know where I'm talking about) But after I started rewatching, and rewatching and rewatching the show I loved her more and more. (for clarity this was about the character. not the actor) Now about the actor: I love Kara, I think she is really talented And I love Wacth what happens and how she sings it.
I could write so much more about this musical, but I think it is good for now :) (I'm absolutly gonna write more about NEWSIES) BUT for the people who didn't watched NEWSIES: please don't wait with watching this musical. It changed my live.
HAMILTON β β β β
Hamilton is the first musical I've ever watched and I really liked it! The Hamilton musical does only have songs, no like dialogue / scene parts. As someone who also really loves not-musical theatre it is giving me dubble feelings, I like that it is different than other musicals. but I like in musicals that there is like a 'pause' of the songs where you can get to know the characters better. I missed that a bit in Hamilton. I don't get good in the story if there isn't any dialogue (this isn't the right word, but I don't know which word is better.) But I also think the songs in Hamilton are very good! I liked the dancing in Hamilton. I actually don't have to say much about the dancing but I really liked it. I also liked the part of history what was told. It was a big part of the American history so I loved that! The acting was also really good. I like some of the details you notice when you are rewatching it :)
now some charaters + actors
Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) I liked the way the showed Hamilton in the musical. I have to say I don't know much about the American history, But I liked how they made Hamilton a character, even tho he was a real person. Lin-Manuel really played this character good. AND I love his rapping!
Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.) I do like the difference about Burr and Hamilton. I liked about Burr the way that they keep 'telling' that he kept all of his plans/dreams/opinions by hisself. I think Leslie played this person really good!
I'm not gonna do more characters :( Because I think it is really hard to write about characters who were real persons. not just a character!
For the people who didn't watched Hamilton: go and watch it, I think it really does change a bit of your thinking about everything and it's good to know from what we came (not all I know, I'm also not American, but still)
The Outsiders β β β β β
I'm talking about The Outsiders Broadway version. I have to watch the movie and read the book later. I really liked The Outsiders, But I did cry much, I think this is a beautiful story, like I said: I have to read the book, but I think that they maked I a whole story on stage (what is something I'm missing when there is a movie/TV show/musical based on a book) I really liked the way they showed the rumble. (this isn't a spoiler, right?) and how they did it with the rain and stuff. I also LOVE the songs. My favourite? I actually don't really know which one is my favourite, but I really like: Tusla '67 as opening song. I think that song directly shows the 'vibe' of the musical and it is just a really good opening song. I also liked Great Expectations, because it is just a really sad but also hopefull song, with much emotion. AND I love Run Run Brother, because also there is a lot of emotion. and it is a really good song. The acting work was AMAZING. but I will tell more about that when I'm japping about the characters:
Ponyboy (Brody Grant) This is a beautiful character. I think he is really growing during the story. I love the fact that he is telling the story and that he sees himself different than how others see him. I love Brody as Ponyboy, I think he did the actingwork SO good. when I started the musical I directly notice how good his actingwork was and how he reacted on everything people said with his face. I love that.
Johnny Cade (Sky Lakota-Lynch) Johnny is a great character who is really tough but on the other side a very good friend, who would do anything for Ponyboy. I love that about the character. And I think Sky did it amazing. I love his voice-sound and also the way he is acting!
Darrel (Brent Comer) I think this character is also a beautiful character. the way how he doesn't really know what his roll is in the house (brother or father) and how he is struggeling with, yeah, everything is showed so good. Brent was perfect for this roll I think!
Cherry (Emma Pittman) I've dubble feelings about Cherry. I think she also struggels with the side she should pick (between the Greasers and Socs) but I like the way she notice that the Greasers aren't the bad, that the Socs should've let them go. I would've liked to know a bit more about her actually, but I don't know how that is going in the book :) Emma did this roll very good, I also love her actingwork!
For the people who didn't watched The Outsiders: GO WATCH IT (you can look for a sl!me tut on Pinterest/Youtube or even better: go watch it in the theatre!) I think this story change the way of thinking AND It let you cry :) I'm gonna read the book. I only need some money... (I'm saving for the NEWSIES book (what is sooooooo expensive))
